Features
- Double-Sided Boards have two layers of conductive copper, arranged on both sides of the circuit board. Inter-layer connections are achieved using via technology, making them suitable for more complex circuit requirements and high-density connection applications.
- Compared with single-sided boards, the manufacturing process of double-sided boards is relatively more complex. In addition to the basic etching and solder mask processes, via production must be added, which increases manufacturing costs.
- Double-sided boards can accommodate more complex circuit designs, provide better signal transmission and electrical performance, and are more suitable for applications requiring higher performance and intricate circuits.
- Due to the addition of an extra layer of conductive copper and vias, the overall thickness increases, and flexibility is slightly lower than that of single-sided boards. However, they still maintain a certain degree of flexibility, making them suitable for applications that require some bending capability.
Construction
A double-sided board consists of the following layers: covering film, copper foil, substrate, copper foil, covering film.
Covering film
The outermost layer of a double-sided board, used to protect the circuit patterns and prevent the copper foil from oxidizing.
Copper layer
A double-sided board has two conductive copper layers, placed on the upper and lower sides of the circuit board, which serve to conduct electricity.
Substrate (Base Material)
Located between the copper layers, it provides mechanical strength and support for the circuit board.
PTH Holes (Plated Through-Holes)
Used to establish electrical connections between the upper and lower copper layers, enabling circuits to be wired and interconnected on both sides of the board.
Application
Double-sided boards are widely used across various industries, mainly in the following areas:
Consumer Electronics: Double-sided boards are extensively used in consumer electronic devices such as mobile phones, tablets, laptops, and audio/video equipment. They provide more wiring possibilities and meet the requirements of complex circuit designs.
Industrial Automation: In industrial automation, double-sided copper boards carry the complex circuits of controllers and drivers, ensuring smooth operation of production lines and playing a critical role in industrial equipment.
Smart Home Systems: Double-sided PCBs provide a stable electrical platform for smart switches, sensors, and other devices, enabling more convenient and intelligent home life.
Medical Equipment: Thanks to their high integration and complex wiring capabilities, double-sided copper boards are widely used in medical devices, such as monitors and surgical instruments.
Automotive Electronics: In automotive electronics, double-sided boards are applied in the circuit design of sensors, controllers, and actuators, ensuring stable operation of automotive electronic systems.
Lead time of production
Most radio PCBs are double-sided boards. We usually produce a PCB prototype before mass production. It takes approximately 5 days to complete a double-sided prototype PCB.
For mass production, the lead time is generally 10–20 days, depending on the actual order quantity.
Common Specification
Material: FR-4
Board Thickness: 1.6 mm, 1.0mm, 0.8mm
Copper Weight: 1 oz
Surface Finish: HASL, ENIG, etc.
Customized product:
Most of our products are customized based on the original Gerber files provided by our customers.
After receiving the original Gerber files, we convert them into working Gerber files for production use.
During this conversion process, we adjust certain parameters-such as hole diameter, trace width, and trace spacing-to optimize manufacturability and ensure smooth production.
Package and warranty:
All our products are vacuum-packaged with desiccant to ensure optimal protection during storage and transportation.
The shelf life of vacuum-packaged circuit boards varies depending on the surface treatment process, typically ranging from 3 to 12 months. The details are as follows:
Shelf Life for Different Surface Treatment Processes
ENIG (Electroless Nickel Immersion Gold):
Can be stored for up to 12 months under vacuum packaging with desiccant protection.
Lead-Free HASL (Hot Air Solder Leveling):
When no special storage adjustments are made, the shelf life is typically about 3 months.
OSP (Organic Solderability Preservative):
Has a shelf life of 3–6 months under vacuum packaging with desiccant protection. However, if stored improperly (e.g., without desiccant or with insufficient vacuum sealing), the shelf life may shorten to around 3 months.
Immersion Gold (Chemical Gold Plating):
Shelf life can reach 6–12 months, provided that sealed packaging and desiccant are used.
Certification:
We are committed to delivering high-quality products through the continuous improvement of our quality management system.
Our products are certified to meet international standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 13485, IATF 16949:2016, SGS, and CE.
